Boring Bible?

What do you do when the Bible is boring?

"All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The other day I received a text message asking, "How is the Book of Numbers applicable today or is it really not?"

As you learn to study the Bible you'll find yourself asking questions like this about a few parts of the Bible. Here's the truth: it's not always applicable. But it is always God's Word.

Here's why that matters: Your faithful study of God's Word will always better equip you for your calling, even if you don't realize it.

Last year I set a goal to read the Bible every day. I did that for 364 days (I missed one Monday in October). There were plenty of days that what I read felt like it had nothing to do with me. Frankly, some of it was boring.

But what 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us is that all Scripture is breathed out by God. When God breathes out, He creates life (Genesis 2:7). All of Scripture is God's breath to your soul. Wherever the Word of God goes, it does not return void (Isaiah 55:11).

Let me encourage you: you won't always know how the Bible applies to you and that's okay.

Stay disciplined. Be faithful in reading your Bible. One day you'll see how well God equipped you through His Word.
