Complete Satisfaction

How can a christian be completely satisfied? This is a very confusing question to answer. The confusion is compounded when we stop to realize that this world we live in is nothing next to the eternal greatness we are waiting for. Is it possible to be completely satisfied in our earthly lives?

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

“And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” Isaiah 58:11

“The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied…” Proverbs 19:23

God promises satisfaction through Himself. If all who are saved are in Christ Jesus, then why do Christians so often find themselves dissatisfied by much of life? Our work, family, relationships, church, school, and many other things can leave us dissatisfied. But why?

This is where it is important to understand the difference between being satisfied in this life and being satisfied by this life. I feel that it is often the case that we become dissatisfied when we are trying to find our satisfaction through the things we do or have. The things of this world will never satisfy. We are made for so much more. On the other hand, we have infinite satisfaction when we are satisfied through God in this life.

Satisfaction comes through being at the center of God’s will. “And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire…” (Isaiah 58:11). When you are guided by God, he will satisfy you. But we must come to Jesus to be satisfied and guided: “whoever comes to me shall not hunger…” Get to know your Savior. Learn who He is, how great his power! When we draw close to the heart of the God who made us with His own hands we cannot help but be overcome with awe, wonder, love, fear, joy, and satisfaction all at once.

Just this evening I was watching a short movie that was all time-lapse photography of flowers. They were beautiful! I thought, not one of them looked worried. Not one flower was unhappy with where they were planted. Every single one was a like a song or a painting perfectly composed to bring praise to their Maker. How would our lives change if our hearts were completely satisfied by God from being in his presence and his sovereign will? I believe it would be completely transformational - like a bud turning into a bloom and radiating color and life.

“You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.” Psalm 145:16
